Show Measuring the Rise of Salt Lake. Yesterday Dr. J. R. Park, of the Deseret University, accompanied by Mr. James Townsend and Mr. Mc-Knight, Mc-Knight, went la Black Rock, south end of Ureat Salt Like, to place in position a.gninite pillar, marked in half inches, inches, six inches and feet, by which therise or fall of the . vaters of the Lake are to be in future, measured. The pillar was furnished ' gratia by Messrs. Morris & Evans.and was forwanled by Mr. Townsend, on the same liberal terms, on Monday. It is three feet nine inches above the bed ofthe Lake, nine iohpg being at present undur water, with three feet above. This action must be conceded &11 important. on.u, in view of the numerous interests affected by the rise or fall of this great b;dy of water, reports of which are to be furnished iveek'y. At present we learn the water is falling; but it U possible that (he late rains may increase its volume when they percolate to the spring-Fources spring-Fources of the rivers flowin" into the Lake. Professors Bishop aud La-motte La-motte were to havo accompanied them, but circumstances prevented their being present. |
