Show City Council. Mpeting of tho City Council, Tuesday Tues-day evening, Mayor Wells in the chair: Petition of M. H. Walker and twenty-lour others, asking for the privilege of playing cricket on Washington Wash-ington Square, was granted, during the pleasure of the cwuncil. The superintendent of insane asylum and hospital presented his report re-port for the quarter ending June '60, 1874. The expenses for the quarter amounted to $1,498.70; number of inmates in-mates at close of quarter, twelve eight males and four females. The report was placed on file. The committee to whom was referred refer-red the petition of Loin Reggel and filly -tbree others, asking that traveling travel-ing agents doing business in this city be charged a liueose, reported and recommended re-commended that the committee on license be instructed to draft an ordinance or-dinance in accordance with the Drayer ?f the petition; report adopted. adopt-ed. The committee on claims, to whom was referred the following bills, against the city, reported that they bad examined the same and found them correct, and recommended that the same be paid: Salt Luke City Gas Company, $96. 0; Latimer & Taylor, S.19; expense bill at City Hall, $27G.2j; expense bill at prison, $23.(X; expense bill at fire department, depart-ment, $60. Amounts appropriated. A communication was received from Rev. II. M. Kirby, accompanied by a series of resolutions adopted by the vestry of St. Mark's DarL-h. thanking Mayor Weils, the council and the fire brigade, for their prompt assistance, last week, on the occasion of the water breaking through the walls into the cathedral; placed on file. The superintendent of the insane asylum and hospital presented bill of expenditure at that institution for the month of June. The amount, $-jIS, was appropriated. A comnui n icatiou was received from the Deseret base ball club, thanking the council for granting to the former, the use of Washington Square on which to play ball; placed on fila. Petitiou of Mark Lindsay and fifty-one fifty-one others, was received, asking the council to rescind its action granting to E. D. Hoge and others the right to take water in pipes from the Twelfth Ward ditch, to their residences; re-1 ferred lu the water-master. 1 The bill of William Hyde for feeding feed-ing city prisoners during tbe month of June meals, at fifteen cents was presented and amount appropriated. ap-propriated. Too hill of Henry Grow, for making fences, tl times, etc., $81.74 was allowed. Tho bill of Arm t rone & Baelev. for lumber, amounting to $70.70, was referred to the supervisor of streets.
