Show President Lincoln. o man who ever filled tbe Presidential Presi-dential Chair occupied a more elevated ele-vated position in tho esteem of the people of Utah than that of Abraham Lincoln; not even MillanI I'ilhuore. And the man who at the same time traduces President Lincoln and the people of I'tah is so ignorant of facts that his lack of information becomes painful. On the lib of March, 1805, Sail Lake Cify sreeied a platform at the junction of E;ist Temple and First South streets, where a eulogy was pronounced in honor of President Lincoln's reelection, by Judge John Titus. When the telegraph brought word of his" assassination, bills were immediately struck oil' and the theatre was closed and business generally suspended. Then came obsequies on tbc day of his funeral conducted in the Tabernacle with funeral, orations by Aniasa Lyman and Xorman Me- Lcod. It seems strange that wc hare to recall these incidents, but the vulgar attacks of an ignorant and falsifying ass seem to compel them. We apologise apolo-gise to tbe public for recapitulating them. |
