Show The Liquor Ordinance. Hale it Launau and Lawrence &. Mann, who were arrested on two charges, each, of selling liquor without with-out license, appeared in Court at 11 , a. m., yesterday, .the time set for a trial of the cases, and through their attorneys asked that tho trial bo postponed until o p. m. Tho time was granted, and at the appointed hour they appeared with an injunction injunc-tion from Judge. McKean, restraining tho city from proceeding any further in the prosecutions of the aUive firms, but allowing the city to argue the case before him at any time, provided it gave one day's notice to the liquor dealers. The same questions, we understand Jt, that are involved in these cases, wore argued months ago before Judge McKean; ami it was not until mouths after the arguments were made thai ho arrived alany thing thatJiiight be considered a decision in the eases, ami he has not yet directly decided- whether tho city had a right to collect license or not. During those months the liquor saloons were allowed to run, the Judge having rw in tho present easo granted an injunction. These cases may be argue.! before McKean, and he may give a decision in a month or a year, or he may postpono doing so indefinitely; but while that decision may be faithfully placed in a judicial pigeon hole awaiting the hopeful time for its appearance, the sa lota 1 keepers can go on with their business, as if such a thing as charter authority had no existence. . |
