Show The Haskins Arrest. The arrest of MY. Haskins, at Yal-Iejo Yal-Iejo and his release on habeas corpus, as reported in the Sacramento papers, continued to be an interesting topic of conversation in town yesterday. ! Allusion has been made to the con-I con-I ncetion of Geo. C. Bates, Esq., with the matter, it being alleged that he prepared an atlidavit long ago against Mr. Haskins, on the same charge for which the arrest was made. That gentleman, yestenlay, handed us the following relative thereto; Editors Ikrald: Touching any action that I may have taken in the mailer between Colonel E. A. Wall and Mr. J. W. Haskins, it is proper for mc to state that it was done in my olfictal capacity capaci-ty as U. S. District Attorney, upon proper legal complaint. With reference refer-ence to the late arrest of Mr. Haskins, I know nothing upon the subject, and have heard nothing of the matter since I ceased to W U. S. District Attorney. At-torney. If, however, Colonel Willi and his attorneys, and Mr. Joseph W. Haskins, will permit me to publish all that I know of the transaction referred re-ferred to, I will most cheerfully do so, and "will a talc unfold" that will astonish as-tonish the people of L tali and of the United States. Respectfully, Geo. C. Bates:. Now, by all means let us have this ' tale unfolded. -Colonel Wall cannot have anything connected with the matter that he cares lo have buried up while the world is waiting to hear it. Mr. Haskins asserts that ho is an innocent, ill used and much abused man, and he should be anxious to have the fads published ; and wc are exceedingly anxious that they should be published, as they will lw found to form a handsome and interesting link in a somewhat remarkable chain of circumstances showing into whose hands matters of vast importance in this region have fallen, and illustrating illustrat-ing with great clearness the ofiicial purity so characteristic uf Utah and the Territories. We fancy some gentlemen gen-tlemen would instantly send for the man that writes the autobiographies to have theirs republished, and the resurrected facts inserted. Let us have the proposed revelations ! |
