Show Something New. A somewhat curious cu-rious case was brought to the notioc of the third district oourt yesterday. It appears that some time ago, when the butcher cases were up for hearing before be-fore judgo McKean in chambers, court sitting in marshal Patrick's office, Mr. Whitney, who was ODgaged in the case, took there five volumes of tho Illinois Reports, tho property of colonel Mann, whoso name, on printed slips, yt&s pasted on the lower part of tho baok of tho books. TboBo volumes, or volumes boliovcd to bo them, were subsequently discovered in the library, of which Mr. C. Myron flawlcy has charge, the nameB torn off, and tho words "Utah Library" written on the upper end of the books. Judce Hoge, of Snow & Hogcf rIbo tpok some seven books to tho marshal's offico, which disappeared in a similar manner, Mr. II aw Icy admitted ad-mitted in court that the words "Utah Library" had been written by his direction. di-rection. Tho matter was allowed to drop by tho bar, but the wholo affair has a rather queer look about it. |
