Show I iion Bedsteads for sale by H. Din-wood Din-wood ey. Chinese Obsequies. At the offioc of Wells, Fargo & Co., yesterday wo observed an oblong box containing tho remains of "Fcr Yon" a native of tho "Flowery Land" destined for the home of his forefathers for interment. Three femalo attendants surrounded tho casket, or box, which was sur-. mounted with "Joss aticks" kqown to us as candles. Incantations peouliar to tho Chinese form and language, were delivered over the oorpso by the attendant relatives much to the seeming seem-ing gratification of our outside ''barbarians" ''bar-barians" who wero spectators and evidently looked upon the solemn ceremonies cer-emonies over our dead Oriental cousin as a good joke. Tho proscnt is the first ceremony of tho kind witnessed here, and, although wo differ in religious relig-ious views, still wo respect and honor tho feelings of those let their views bo what tbey may) who mourn tho loss of a rclativo or friend. |
