Show A Fearful Punishment. A news paper of Biughampton, N. Y, presents pre-sents this uuique and surprising plan for the proper punishment of murderers; mur-derers; I would have tho law go altered that within an hour after conviction the culprit's eyesight should bo forever destroyed, and then he should be placed plac-ed in confinement lor life in a prison especially for this purpose. In this prison he should be dead to tho world, never moro hearing the voice of friends, a'jvcr more seeing God's green earth, nor blue sky. "Interviewers" thoso pests of society should occasionally bo permitted to torture him, and when his narrations were sufficiently harrowing, harrow-ing, let them be published. Shut ip from the eternal world, ho will be driven to look inward, and then brow bronzed with imamy may blush with shame, and that soul cankered with crime may bo softened by repentance. This merciful individual would outdo the worst atrocities of Torquemada; for the most horrid death wonld bo preferable prefer-able to such diabolical torture. |
