The two centre sections sec-tions of the arch between the western abutment and tiie first of the bridge, each consisting of an upper and lower rib, were completed yesterday by insertion in-sertion of the key or centre tubes, and that portion of the arch is now finish-eel, finish-eel, demonstrating the feasibility of the original plans; and its success is regarded as one of the greatest triumplisof engineering skill the world has ever seen. The two remaining ribs of this arch, which are only partially par-tially constructed, will be finished, at once, and with ease, and the three grand arches of the bridge are expected expect-ed to be finished by the middle of December. Tom Allen, the pugilist, has accepted accept-ed the challenge of Ben Hogan, and last night $200 a side was put up as a forfeit. The fight is to be for S1,000 a side, and to tike place 30 days from the time of signing the articles. This will not he done until after the contest between Allen and McCoole next I Tuesday. Hogan will go into training 1 here on Monday a. m.: |
