Show The Mixed Commission. New York, 14.-Of the 107 cases presented for arbitration to the mixed commission, which is now sitting at Newport, only S7 remain unsettled andthe commission hope to finish these within the stipulated tunc. The greatest part of the work, and expense ex-pense too, is in the printing, the cost of which work, too is advanced by the United Slates government, the share of the British government being determined de-termined quarterly and returned. The amount awarded upon each claim is to be taxed o per cent, for expenses. When the cases are all decided, the gross sum which is to be paid will be stated. The duplicate journal and accounts will be delivered ; to the two governments. The two government printing offices in yew-port, yew-port, the one in Boston, the one in yew York and the two in Washington, Washing-ton, devote all their spare time to the work. The bulk of the printing is being done in the hist named city, divided between the American and English houses. In one case, not yet finished, six thousand printed pages have been finished, and the briefs have not yet been put in type. The. expenses of the commission are to bo paid when the labors of the commission are finished. |
