Show THE AM E Kit' AX lOKK RAILROAD. RAIL-ROAD. Deer Creek, Sep. 5, 1S72. Editors Herald: Here we aro at Deer creek, twelve and a half miles from American Fork city, and a road-bed is finished ready for track-laying, which will bo comple-, ted within a week, and tho iron road-horse road-horse will have then penetrated the ; Wasatch farther than ever before, if we except the national highway the transcontinental railroad. As your lato correspondent informed you, almost insurmountable barriers had to be overcome, lines run and re-run, but the American Fork railroad is now a stubborn fact, and my main object at this late date is to present a public acknowledgment of tho valuablo and efficient services of Col. Grey, the chief engineer and superintendent of the entire road, who, backed by the indomitable will, perseverance and foresight of major Wilkes, has achieved for Utah ono of the very difficult objects ob-jects of engineering in the west. Tho narrow-gaugo of tho U.N.R.R. has been proven a success by the public, pub-lic, and the narrow-gaugo of American Fork is also proven to bo so by thoso who havo been with and upon it ; and though the grado is very heavy, tho locomotive proceeds steadily, surely and pleasantly on its journey, making this retreat with its magnificent scenery, sce-nery, health-assuring breezes and inviting in-viting riches, an cabily accessible and desirable resort for our metropolitans duriDg tho next and every following summer. Your subscriber, having built over four miles of the road, must also speak perse Dally, and in conjunction with tho contractors and foremen who have been helping to build the road, in tho highest possible manner of their entire confidence in major Wilkes and Col. Grey, and wish hereby to express their best wishes for the completion of the line and its success Respectfully, Jfcc.. E. H. |
