A private letter from St. George informs us that Mr. John Pymm, the energetic postmaster of that city, has recently erected a new building for a post office, probably the first building erected for post oflice purposes iu the Territory. The building is already so far finished that Uncle Sam's postal business haa been moved into it. In connection with the post office Mr. Pymm has opened a book and stationery station-ery store, where he calculates to keep a full supply of good books, papers, stationery and Gther articles in that lice, which will doubtless prove a great Large Amount of Freight We are credibly informed that the freight received by Zions Co-operative mercantile mer-cantile institution during the months of October and November amounted to over three million pounds, being in round numbers fifteen hundred tons; and supposing it eame io oar load lota, 1 required one hundred and fifty oars for its transportation, and about $70,000 to 1 pay the freight. This is a nice little ' item and well worth looking after by 1 freight companies and railroads. 1 There was a time whon sixty wagons ' was thought a good sized train for one house to receive merchandise by twice in ' a year; but this would have required ' some fiiteen such tratos-or sbout nine hundred teams and that for only two months 1 |
