Show STAR DISTRICT. From Mr. O'Reilly, who has just returned from Star District, and who was present at the ovation given to Mr. Musser by major Gallagher, Mr. Schoonmaker and others on tho completion com-pletion of the telegraph line to that place, we learn that tho "boys" had a pleasant time. Toasts were given, and speeches were made by Messrs. Gallagher, Musser, McKee, of Well?, Fargo & Co., and others; and there was considerable rejoiciog, not only at tho fact that telegragh communication was now a fixed fact, but that bullion could be shipped throagh Wells, Fargo Far-go & Co. by the enterprise of that company and the immediate exertions of Mr. McKee. Mr. O'Reilly has a high opinion of the mineral resources of that country, and thinks but a short time will elapse before that district will have as good a reputation in this respect as Pioche. Some important sales have been mado there recently, prominent among j which is one made by Col. Sheridan to. 1 a Chicago company of bonded mines. The purchasers intend commencing work upon an extensive scale. Other transfers have been made lately. Gilmer Gil-mer &, Salisbury aro running daily stages from Fillmore to Beaver, and the drive, barring the dust and a few , mud holes, is pleasant enough. Beaver river has beon very high, overflowing the low levels in its vicinity, but it is ! now behaving very well. Crops look well along the Beaver creek bottoms, but a disastrous raid from grasshoppers was expected, as they had already put in an appearance in some localities. Mioiog locations made by Mr. Maloney of this city, in which Mc-srs. Lyon and Callahan are interested, in San Francisco district, were creating considerable excitement. Several miners and mining speculators specu-lators were coming in from Pioche, Arizona and other localities. |
