Show THE CONVENTIONS YESTERDAY. YESTER-DAY. Tho conventions called to meet yesterday yes-terday duly assembled; the speakers Bpokc their pieces; tho resolutions were enthusiastically endorsed, tickets were put in the field, and delegates elected in the usual stylo. The Vermont Republicans, Re-publicans, of course, resolved that the Philadelphia nominees bore the banner ban-ner of victory. Tho Georgia Democrats Demo-crats chivalrously sent .their delegato" o Baltimore "untrammeled by in struotions;" and the New Jersey Democrats Dem-ocrats were somewhat non-oommittal, although governor Randolph "spoke out in meeting" strongly in favor of Greeley. But tho most noteworthy political event of tho day was the action of the Illinois Democratic and Liberal Republican Repub-lican conventions, both of which met yesterday in the capital of that State. It was a complete fusion, and resulted in a joint Stato ticket with three Liberal Lib-eral Republicans and three Democrats on it. This shows that the Cincinnati movement has a stronger hold in Illinois Illi-nois than was generally supposed, or the Democrats would not have divided the ticket equally with their new allies. The Chicago lim,s has been perhaps the most bitter opponent of Greeley in the Democratic ranks, but the action ac-tion of the Demoorate of Dlinois shows that they do not follow its lead; while the new organ of tho party in Chicago, Chi-cago, tho iVors, has had its course most strongly endorsed. From the action ac-tion taken at Springfield yesterday, it is very likely that the combined parties will carry that State against tho regular regu-lar Republicans, both in the Slate and I'residential elections. |
