Show Arizona. A gentleman from Arizona, Ari-zona, nn old rf-ident of that Territory who claims to be perfectly conversant with the status of affairs in that section, sec-tion, called at our sanctum yesterday morning and furnished us the following follow-ing information: The attitude cf the Apaches is more hostle than ever, and tiie Cullyer policy is very generally condemned in consequence. But little better results are expected to follow the mission of general Howard, and general gene-ral Crook is looked to as the only hope for protection against tho marauders. 11c says, not only have the Apaches been keeping the citizeus in a state of continued dread and alarm, by hostile demonstrations, but marauding bands of Mexican freebooters, from Sonora, frequently cross the Gila river into Arizona, Ar-izona, drive off stock, and murder and plunder the inhabitants. This indicates indi-cates a bad state of affairs, which should at once commond itself to the consideration of the government. While believing that a wise and hu-maoo hu-maoo course towards all Indian tribes is better than one of extermination, the lives and property of white settlers should be protected alike from Indian and Mexican savagos. |
