Show LETTER FROM BRIG II AM CITY.j Regular Correapondenco of tho Hortila. j BitiaiLAM City, Aug. 9th, 1S71. , Editors Herald: tile election. i The election returns from the van-1 ous prcoinota of tho county are all made. As you are doubtless aware, this county has within its boundariesj 1 a town which boasts much "liberal strength. I notice particularly how its "strength" has increased since the election of last year, at which, time the aforesaid town or city returned upwards up-wards of eight hundred votes, as having hav-ing been cast by .legal voters. To-day its ballot box contained eighty votes, two of them being for the People's Ticket. What a powerful city it will 'become in a few years if its "strength" ! continues to increase in the above ratio 1 The precinct returns for Box Elder county are as follows: Brigham City, 994; Bear River, 103; Bear River City. 182; Mantua, 127; Devoys, 90; Willard ,City, 163; Curlew, 51; Portage, 172; Kclton, 27; Malad, (Corinne, ) 60. Total 19i4. Of the above number of votes cast, 1914 were for tho "People's Ticket," and SO for the "Liberal Ticket." CROPS AM URASfiUOPVELlH. Harvesting is pretty well along; the crop of small grain, with the exception of oats, is very abundant. The corn orop is much damaged by grasshoppers, that exist here in considerable numbers yet, depositing their eggs, giving every assurance ot an abundant orop ol tnem i for next your, which ought to bo a j warning to those who havo beeu 1 blessed with good crops this season, to take care of tho surplus, and not dis-1 I pose of it at the very low figure to which it will be reduced in consequence of the j abundant orpp. ; MINING MATTERS. , Work in our mines has been reaumcd I again this week, and will be prosecuted j ; vigorously, under tho superintendency i ! of S. Smith, until the various lodes arej fully developed, and a correct know- I ledge of their richness established. Ij ;aui assured, by a reliable party, that I ' machinery suitable for working tho 1 oro from these mines, will be imported ! here this summer from Chicago. If the irrepressible miner aud respected .gentleman, Col. David Bucl. or some ! of his associates, would viit our mines, 1 am atisllcd they would be favorably impressed. Times arc very dull, and money is -earce in thi locality, although wo anticipate a ehango when harvest it over. Hoping so, I remaiu, etc., Oris. |
