Show By W.U. Telegraph Lins.J COLFAX AND TI1K PRESIDENCY. Indianapolis, 10. Tho Journal this morning publishes a letter from vice-president vice-president Colfax, referring to a recent telegram from this city, to the effect that a concerted effort was being made to secure for him the lie publican nomination nom-ination for president. He says: "No such effort is being made anywhere by my wish or authority. Publicly and privately, in speeches and in letters, I nave invariably declared myself in favor of President Grant's nomination, and have so written to every friend in Indiana who a.-ktd my opinion." He adds that he hopes his n;ime will net be mentioned in the Indiana it ate convention in this connection, and that the convention will declare unanimou-'y in favor of Grant's renouiinntion. He also takes occasion to say that he will accept the nomination for the vice-presidency, vice-presidency, but will support any other candidate for that petition. |
