Show COI'STEHFEIT BA.VK NOTES. We take the followiug from Thompson's Thomp-son's Bank Note and Commercial tie Porter, for March 1st, giving a descrip-1 tion of new counterfeit notes. Ill would be well fur business nieu who do not receive the Bank A'-fe Reporter, to preserve the extract, for the information infor-mation it contains is valuable : ' 50s, on the U. S. This is the first note of the new issnc that has been counterfeited, counter-feited, and can readily be detected by the poor quality of the engraving, while the paper upon which the note is printed U not at all like the genuine. Running through the paper of the genuine iue is a fibre resembling bits! of thread or colored silk, extend iug I from the bottom to the top of the I note, on the right side, which is omitted omit-ted in the C'Hinii'ifeit. This is made! of certain materials interwoven in the paper during its making a secret process pro-cess known only to the inventors. The female on the left end of the note Is coarsely engraved, and tho dark drap-rry drap-rry has a. scratchy appearance. Upon the upper left corner of the note is a 1 shield with the monogram "U.S.," uu-i uu-i der which Is a ribbon with the motto "JC ljlurilius C'nitm." In the genuine genu-ine it is quite readable, while in the counterfeit it is blurred and the letters I arc badly formed. Over the letter "U" i in the words "United States," arc the word. "Scries of KSO'J," aud between "Series of" and "lSO'V in the genuine genu-ine there is a small flourish, but in the counterfeit there is nono. City National Bank, Poughkccpaio, N. Y. IDs, imitation. An excellently engraved note, and liable to deceive good judges. National Bank of the State of New York, N. Y. City. 2s, imitation. Shading under title of Bank is irregular. irregu-lar. General appearance is likely to deceive. 20s, imitation, arc reported to be in circulation. ' j Baxter National Eauk, Kutland, j Vt. 10s and 120s arc said to be in circulation, cir-culation, well done. Lebanon National Bank, Lebanon, Pa. 20s, imitation. Thp shading under title of bank is irregular, and the engraving coarse and scratchy, but may deceive many. Westchester Co. National Bank, Peekskill, N. Y. 2s, imitation. Engraving En-graving coarse and scratchy. The signatures sig-natures are engraved. 10s, imitation. Engraving is inferior to genuine National Union Bank, Linderpark, N. lr. 2s. This is a' fraud. There is no such bank. It is altered from tho counterfeit on the National Union bank, Kinderhook, N. Y. Ninth National Bank, N. Y. City. 2s, imitation. Engraving well executed, execu-ted, printing and paper very good. In the genuine, the title of tho bank reads "Niath Rational Bank of the City of New York." In the counter-1 feit, the is omittod, and reads, "Ninth National Bank of City of New York." The genuine has a curved line over tho words pay and bearer, which are omitted in this counterfeit. Tho engraving en-graving on both sides is darker than genuine. 10s, imitation. Engraving' well done. Paper and printing very good. Farmers' National Jank, Malone, N. Y. 10s, imitation.
