Show j Outrageous! We learn that the owner of a job-wagon actually went to tho pest-houso last night and slept in : tho bed in which the small-pox patient died on Wednesday, stole the bed-' bed-' clothes, as well as the suit which the quarantine physician wears when on small-pox duty, and afterwards camo into tho city and circulated among the people. i This is tho most dastardly proceeding proceed-ing which has como to our knowledge of late, and wc have no language in which to express our indignation at this criminal act, and the almost equally equal-ly criminal neglect of tho proper officers, offi-cers, who could leave the building thus exposed to entry by any person, whether aware of the existence of tho contagion or otherwise. In all localities where health officers offi-cers attend faithfully to their duties, pest-houses are guarded from intrusion as watchfully as aro the infected persons. per-sons. There can bo no possible excuse for leaving the small pox hospital unguarded and subject to the approach and entrance of tho ignorant, imbecile or lool-hardy. Wc havo heard so much of mismanagement in this direction di-rection since the commencement of this contagion that we have lost all patience; and this last case of outrageous and criminal laxity on the part of those who are entrusted with a duty second to none in importance the guardianship of the health and lives of the people, has ' placed further forbearanco among the I impossibilities. Let us hare no ; apologies and explanations! Let us have iuslant and ample preparations made for any emergency. |
