Show INDICTMENT OF A CATHOLIC PKIEST. i Tiir cratnl jury of Gloucester couuty I have indicted the Catholic clergyman vf the town of Swedesboro', and two ! oihtr persons, as resurrectionists. 1 About six weeks ago, a member of the j Catholic church died, and was buried i in the church yard, in a lot purchased by the widow. Prior to his death de-i de-i ceased had been derelict in his religious duties, and the priest is alleged to have ordered the remains lo be removed from the burial ground. This was done at night, by the two men also indicted, in-dicted, and the corpse was buried outside out-side the ground and the grave filled up. A woman living near by saw them at work, and telling of it, an excitement ex-citement was created, whereupon a party of the friends of the deceased again dug up t!.;e body and replaced it in the original grave. Oo the following follow-ing Sunday, such of the party doing this as were members of the Catholic church were expelled by the priest, amid great disorder. The two men who were alsoEJindicted pleaded guilty, one of them turning State's evidence. The clergyman is said to contemplate bringing suits for trespass against the persons who replaced the body in the burial ground. Newark N.J.) Ad- . vertiser. |
