Show Josepuus Illustrated. A valuable valu-able relic of antiquity has, says tbe Levant Herald, lately been discovered discov-ered in the grounds of the Russian pilgrim's monastery outride tho walls of Jerusalem. It is a monolitli about thirty-nine feet in length by six feet in diameter, cut out of a single block and only half complete. From a description de-scription in the histo y of Flavius Jo-sephus, Jo-sephus, it is believed to be a column intended for the decoration of tho ancient an-cient Temple of Solomon; but that, as the column split while it was worked, it was left unfinished, tho lower part of it remaining in a rough unhewn state. |
