The senate effected a K-mporary organization or-ganization by electing Hon. Krastos Snow president, P. S. Richards, secretary, sec-retary, and J. I). T. McAllister ser-geant-at-armj. After an examination of the credentials of the members elect, the senate took a reee.-s till - p.m. 2 p. m. The senate convened as per adjournment, adjourn-ment, and after some delay in consequence conse-quence of the absence of some of the members, effected a permanent organization organ-ization by electing the following officers: offi-cers: Krastua Snow, president; F. S. Richards, secretary; J. U. Smith, assistant as-sistant secretary; C. W. Stayner, engrossing en-grossing clerk; J. D. T. McAllister, -rfieant at-arms; A. M. Campbell, messenger; Junius Wells, jr., foreman; Joseph Young, sun., chaplain. The senators then decided by lot, pursuant to section 17, article XVII of the State constitution, on the term for which each should serve; and after the passage of a joint resolution to meet at 12 m. of Friday Sth, for the purpose of electing United States senators, sen-ators, adjourned until to-day at the hour named. HOUSE. The houe of representatives was called to order by Mr. Joseph W. j Young, and effected a temporary organization or-ganization by ducting Hon. A. P. Rockwood, chairman, R. L. Campbell, Ksij., chief clerk, and Milando Pratt, hls(., scrgeaut-at-arms. On motion of Mr. Richard3, a committee com-mittee of live on credentials wa3 appointed ap-pointed by the chair. The chair named Messrs. W. Li. Preston, of Cache, L. Farr, of Weber, W. B. Pace, of Utah, S. A. Mann, of Salt Like, and J. W. i'oung, of Washington and Kane counties, said committee, i On motion, a communication was directed to be made to Hon. Klias Smith, proba:c judge of Salt Lake county, requesting him to meet with the legislators in tho afternoon, for the purpose of administering the usual oath to the members elect. The house then took a recess till 2 o'clock. 2 p.m. The house again assembled at 2 o'clock. The committee on credentials reported report-ed that they had examined the credentials creden-tials of the members elect, and found I them all correct. I The roll was then called and a quo-: quo-: rum found to bo present. The Hon. Elias Smith, probate judge of Salt Lake county, admiois-I admiois-I tcred the oath of office to the members ; elect. j The house then proceeded to a permanent per-manent organization, when, on motion, i Hon. P. D. Richards was elected I speaker, who upon taking tho chair made a brief speech in acknowledgment acknowledg-ment of tho honor conferred. On motion, R. L. Campbell, was elected chief clerk; Wm. Dunford assistant as-sistant clerk; Milando Pratt, sergcant-at-arms; Theodore F. Curtis, messenger; messen-ger; M. B. Shipp, chaplain; Rodney Badger, foreman; and Richard V. Morris, Mor-ris, engrossing clerk. The officers elect were then qualified, the oath being administered by non. E. Smith. Prayer was offered by tho chaplain. A message was sent to the senate, informing it of the organization of tho house, and that it was prepared lbr the transaction of tho business for which it was convened. Mr. T. P. Aker?, of Salt Like, offered of-fered tho following : "Resolved, tho senate concurring, that we now go into joint session for the purpose of eleoting two United States senators." Mr. S. A. Mann, of Salt Lake, believed be-lieved the law of congres was that in proceedings of this kind tho senate and house should each take a separate ballot on the election of senators, then if they did not agree, the election shall be made in joint session. Mr. Akers withdrew his motion. On motion, tho freedom of the house was extended to the federal ofli-eers ofli-eers of Utah, ex-governor B. Young, hon. George A. Smith, the members of tho .territorial legislature, the president presi-dent and members of the laic constitutional consti-tutional convention, the probate judge of Salt Lake county, and the mayor, aldermen and councilors of Salt Lake city. A communication w;is received from tho senitlo, announcing its organization. organiza-tion. A further communication was received re-ceived from the senate announcing the adoption of the folio ivintr : "Resolved by the senate, tho house of representatives concurring, that the two houses respectively will, on Friday, April fjth, at 12 o'clock m., proceed to the election of two senators to represent repre-sent tho State of Descrot iu the senate of tho United States, pursumt to the act of congress in such cases made and provided."
