Show I.KTTEK FUOM AMKUICAS FORK. American Fouk, April 2, ISTi'. Editors Herald: I have waited for months for some one better qualified than I am to send you a few items from this place. Things move along so quietly and regularly here, that people might think there is no such place as American Fork; but we live and move, and that too" in the right direction. - Our meetings are well attended both on Sabbaths and also on Thursday evenings. Our Sunday school is nourishing, conducted by Mr. Fax-man Fax-man and his aids, who aro doing a vast amount of good their perseverance and energy arc worthy of great praise; our choir under the leadership of Mr. Warren Smith is one of the best that 1 have heard in any one of the settlements settle-ments outside of Bait Lake city. Our organ has just arrived from the cast, but not having yet seen or heard it I cannot speak of its merits.- We have a good brass band, conducted by Mr. I Grant, which liberally discourses excellent excel-lent music for tho gratification of the public. Co-operation is going ahead here at a '2:40 pace and doing a line business. They will soon have a tannery and meat market in operation; op-eration; and have also purchased a grist mill whioli will be a great blessing to the community. Wo have a free school system here which works well. The attendance is generally good, and the progress of the children is very gratifying. At the school examination last week the children went through their several csercises with ease, and reflected much credit on Mr. Forbes, the teacher. Professor McDonald has been lecturing lectur-ing here last week, on the laws of life to large and interested audiences. Our bishop has been sick for several weeks, and we would all feel glad if he were again in our midst, for his mild and kind leadership isappreciated here. "Civilization" is coming amongst us, in the shape of several "rum holes," which dispense drugged whisky without with-out discrimination to boys, and openly defy the city ordinances, A mass meeting meet-ing on the subject will bo held to-morrow evening, and we shall see what will be done with regard to them. Your valuable paper comes regularly, and is always welcome by every one who reads it. IIorolouist. |
