Show Anew style of brogan shoes has been produced, made principally of elm wood, in Massachusetts. The sole is divided at the ball of the foot and reuniied by a hinge of sole leather ol suitable thickness, two inches wide, so as to give free play to the toes. A portion por-tion of the uppers is made of leather, but they are toed aud hee.ed wiih wood. They are, however, shaped in the modern mod-ern style and not like the sabot of France, which is all wood, aud turned up at the toe, "Heatheu Chinee" style. In the fastenings cupper rivets are made uso of, und all ihe partd where the wood and leather uuite are packed with India-rubber. These shots will cost lei-s than a dollar per pair, and are a modifijaiion of the European wooden shoe; but it is doubtlul whether they will be found as good as the English ciog, which is one of the most comlbrt able of foot coverings when properly made, when the ground is covered with snow and mud. |
