Wo are taxed by the fed-oral fed-oral government as much as any set of people on everything we have got, and yet it is a mooted question whether tho general government should tax her Territories and refuse to give them a voice in tho legislation; but this injustice injus-tice is a Ismail calamity compared to what is threatened. I We hear of some terrible acts the next congress is to pass, directed solely against this Territory. If we believed those rumors arose from the baggage-masters baggage-masters in office, we would care very little, for they havo always done their worst, but havo yet failed to get their hands into tho pockets of the people. We know there have been too many congressmen amongst us this summer, "taking notes," to be gulled by the newspaper correspondents employed by tho "ring. The "ring" must try a new dodge, and to our mind tho best plan would bo to establish a State! Utah has nearly threo times the population of Nevada, from which State people are coming to us daily; also from the adjoining ad-joining regions, saying nothing of the constant additions from the east and from tho old world. Our mines, too, arc improving so rapidly, by development, that there is no telling tell-ing but wo may more than rival Nevada Neva-da in mineral wealth next year. The "ides of March" are very propitious for a State. A State, you know, could issuo bonds, would have senators, congressmen and hosts of officers. Here's the chance, slip in, and get a good one! But, recollect, wo don't say this; for wero it whispered to the "ring" they would turn face about and go against |
