The following additional addi-tional particulars, of tho tragedy already al-ready telegraphed, reached this city yesterday: It appears that Simmons deserted his wife four years ago, leaving leav-ing her without money or means to obtain ob-tain a living for herself and two children. chil-dren. Hearing of his whereabouts, she wrote to him, imploring him to return, and to send means to relieve her necessities. Not until about six months ago did he return, and then, his wife declined to five with him, and subsequently took steps to procure a divorce, and this was the Alrt gti of the difficulty, Yesterday, by previous pre-vious appointment, he met her, and, as nearly as could be learned from the broken sentences of the wounded woman, wo-man, asked her if she would abandon her ellorts to procure a divorce and live with him, and, receiving a decided negative reply, he fired three shots at his wile, the last of which took effect in her head; then turning the pistol to his own head put a bullet through his brain; Mrs. Simmons is still alive, but litis scarcely possible that she can recover, re-cover, as tho ball passed through tho upper part of the brain. From the testimony adduced at the coroner's in-ijuest in-ijuest on the body of Simmons, it appears ap-pears that ho has several times, since bearing of his wile's intention to secure se-cure a divorce, declared that she should never five with another man. |
