Standard Machine of j the World ! i Tlic SpectAl Commltlre apiiolute-H to examine aiil report ou Sewing Mathluri at the North Carollun SlAte Fair, lirltl at Kalflgh last week, awarded a Gold Medal to the Florence Sewing Jlaeliine for tlie ease and quiet ne& of lis move me nis. perfection and large variet y of work, and Its valuable new features, making ma-king it tlie moat valuable Sewing Machine for family use. f xm Parties contemplating the purchase pur-chase of Sewing Machine are requested re-quested to read the following from the Sew York 'Trlbune" of Oct. 19tb, 1 $10 i I SEWING ilACHIK?. j Wo have recently had occasion to make I some inquiries into tne propres ol itmirove-1 itmirove-1 ment in the niecrumisui ut' eewing uiavhine?, and were not a little surprised to learn thai the central idea in tho firt iiivontinn 1 1 shuttle still hulds its piiK'f. though manj atteuiptj have been made to supercede it. Xhe shuttle, in c-mbinution with the needle, is still the means used to lorm the stitch, ic the leading machines, and we find that tlic growth of trade is chiuiiy with the shuttle ufing machines. The improvements that are taking firm hold in practical use are, therefore, nece?-n-rily in connection with the shuttle, eithei in the detail of the shuttle itself, 01 in other parts of tho machine connecteo. with it, to cause tne whole to operate mort perfectly and uniformly, and to eiuipliiy it.-use. it.-use. .Many important gains in this direction, made since the tirst great invention, are undoubtedly un-doubtedly embodied in the " Florence" ma-chide; ma-chide; and we recommend our readers tc carefully inspect tho ".Florence" befure making ma-king a choice. Ihe points peculiar to this in;v;hir,c are: An unusual a:uount of moiu'y spent ir masing the "Florence," thereby securing the best material (.steel, for instance, whert others use cast-iron ), and the i nest tiuish o; important paru (the shuttle, fur example, being rigidly rejected if it varies from tht standard 1-2.(XJth of an inch I) It is constructed con-structed on the simpie.u scientific principles, entirely dispensing with the ces, and cams, and links which so often get perversely oui of order and sorely perplex every one bu; the practiced machinist by their unaccountable unaccount-able freaks. Ihe ".Florence" is so e;isilj managed, and its use is so readily learned, that an ordinary girl of ten has sense and muscle enough to run it perfectly. Tne lockstitch, lock-stitch, as made by the "Florence" is verj regular and perfect, very strong and elastic, and is drawn into the fabric evenly, gradually, grad-ually, exactly, without jerking, and without causing the seam to pucker, or straining tht thread so as to endanger its breaking; consequently, con-sequently, veiy fine threads and lignt labrics can fee used. Besides thi. the ' F lorence' (in all but the cheapest styles) also maket t three additional stitchoi a double lock, t single knot and a double knot which art stronger and more elastic than any other stitch, and which are made by no other machine. ma-chine. Ihe "Florence" is the only machine that has a reversiole eed, whereby the direction di-rection -of the sewing can be instantly changed without stopping the work, thus enabling the operator to- quilt or embroider with unusual facility, to sew backwards and easily strengthen a seam wherever desired, j and, finally, by a few repeated stitches, tt ; fasten ends in the quickest and stroDgesi way. It ia the only machine that has j.?elf- adjusting shuttle-thread tension, which t works so perfectly that the operator can ruti j across the eaviest seams and sew the finei ! linen and the thickest broadcloth in immediate imme-diate succession withont brekiny thethreao and without chaneing the needle, stitch o: tension. Ihe "F iorence" draws the thread into the cloth with unequaled precision and certainty, by means of an ingenious automatic auto-matic "take-up" wheel, which disposes of i the slack thread left after the stitch with at j accurate promptness that prevents ail snarl-j snarl-j ing or dropping of stitches, and allows the f operator to sew backward, or to run off the j cloth and on again, with perfect impunity, i It has an improved elastic bemmer, exclu-' exclu-' sively its own, which is managed with ease, : and will make a hem of any width on anj I material. It not on.y m.kcs a perfect gathe: and sews it to a bind at one operation, but j it hems, and binds, and feKs. and quilts, arid i cords, and tucs, and gather-, and braidt ; without baatin?. tuch special provision i made against injurious wear that the "Flor ence" is oiaimed and guaranteed by theCmx-pany theCmx-pany to last urice as long without repair 3 any other shuttle machine in the market, without the slightest dimculty. Every part oi the "Florence'' is so periectiy and permanently perma-nently adjusted, and it has so few joints and points of friction, that it runs with the utmost ut-most ease. ihe neeiie is set and threaded, and the stitch is lengthened, shortened, or reversed with tne utmost ut-most ease. In using the "Florence" neither the work nor the operator's dress is iiabie to be eoiled. The ".Florence" with ail the;e c aims to superiority, sells at the same price as other rirst-ctii-si mcnLnes.
