Show Trotting Match. There was a trotting match on the race course over Jordan, yesterday, between horses owned by Messrs. J. S. Waiker, Jack Gilmer and H. M. Taylor, each animal being driven by his owner. The race was won by Mr. Gilmer's horse in two straight heats, and the "funds" changed hands handsomely. The style in which Jack handled the ribbons was the subject of eulogy among amateurs and knowing ones; but, sure, "divil thank him, for he larned how," as Pat said about bolting potatoes. The positions in the race were : J. Gilmer's b. g., first, time 2:51 and 2;53; M. H. Taylor's s. g., "Eagle," second; and J. S. Walker's s. g., third. The race was for a purse of $100.' It should be said in justice that the day was very stormy, the track in anything hut good condition, and Messrs. Taylor's and Walker's horses were too fat for quick work. As the spring advances we may look for more of these trials of speed. |
