Show WaKt to Know. A press dispatch sent from this city, under datj August 4th, says: The Mormon family with whom General Maxwell has boarded for a year havn turned him off, under positive posi-tive orders from the Church, because of his part in the election. First, we didn't know "the Church" gave "uo.-itive orders" about any thing. We belong to "the Church" here, and wo don't know of any such orders being given. If by "the Church" some individual is meanf, we object, decidedly object; for we belong to no individual this side of eternity, though we do p.-ofesi to belong to "the Church." Next; Who told this telegrapln-t thit -he Churc'i" gave such positive orders? Was it Genera! Maxwell, the ''Mormon family," or "the Church 7" If Geueral Maxwell, he didn't know; if the "Mormon family," we don't believe them; and if the telegraphist tele-graphist says "the Church" told him, he stands self-confessed what we have no need to designate him. But, in h's unqualified assertion he shows his animus and proclaims his mandacity plain folks would call it lying. He could not know that any such orders were given unless he had heard them, or had it confirmed by the party giving them, neither of which was the case. Now for this gentleman, whose dispatches dis-patches we have had to notice before. Is he the individual who indulges in threats of assassination against a leading lead-ing man in "the Church" about two o'clock on Sunday mornings, where liquor is sold in defiance of law? And is he the individual who is boasting of his power to seduce silly though virtuous virtu-ous girla in this city ? We want to know. And we invite the attention of the Western Union Telegraph Com pany to the fact that they could not have "scared up" anywhere a more unreliable man than their present telegraphic agent in this city, whoever he may be; for such a man could not get into decent society and must gain bis information at second hand all' the time, while his mendacity is notorious to all who read the telegrams which he sends across the wires. |
