Show I Iniuans Sot-rii. Mr. Jacob Hamblin, Ham-blin, Indian Interpreter, is in town waiting to meet Major Powell whom ho accompanied last summer on the exploration of (ho Colorado. Mr. llainbliu says the "homo Indians" in the south are very peaceable and industrious; in-dustrious; and if they had moro farming farm-ing tools they could do much vuoro for self-sustenance. He is of tho opinion, after long years' of experience, that the cost of u very brief campaign against the aboriginies, by troops, if put in the shape of food, farming tools and other means of civilization would go a much greater way and with much better effect. The Navajoes havo made raids on some of the southern settlements settle-ments doing considerable damage; he thinks, however, there is not much to be feared now from Indiau attacks, unless un-less from Elk Mouutain or Vaiupa Ute bauds. |
