Show Contlkt wiih a Map Lion. A singular contest took place lately in a Mexican village, near Monterey. The I'lci'ihUchI (JjjLiul of that city gives the particulars : "Two young brothers, broth-ers, Eugenio and Jose Maria, sons of Don Francisco Cantu, were engaged in cleaning out a well, at a place called Mos Positos. Suddenly a rabid hon appeared, and violently rushed upon one of the young men, Eugenio, knocking knock-ing him senseless to the ground. The other young man, twenty years of age, on seeing the imminent danger of his brother, rushed in turn upon the beast, who immediately abandoned his prey and furiously faced the one who intended in-tended to dispute him. Jose Maria possesses extraordinary strength, and having succeeded in drawing his arms around the beast in an advantageous manner, attempted to choke ir. " The young man and beast rolled about the ground lor some time, and finally the beast freed itself from the hold of its oppressor, in a dyint; condition, and the brave Cantu iiuished kihing it by smashing its head with an agricultural instrument which he was using when attacked.
