Show Beei'8 Grow.v os Mineral Land. Experiments have proved that soil so impregnated with mineral as to be valueless for growing ordinary crops cam be rendered profitable by growing beets. Yesterday morning Col. Juhn K. Winder showed us several huge beets grown upon such land as an experiment, ex-periment, which would establish the fact if it had not been known before. They were of four varieties : The White Sugar, Yellow Hamburg, Bed Mangel Wurtzel and Blood Turnip. As there are large tracts of this land in different parts of the Territory, and beets are excellent feed for stock which is now receiving considerable attention, a considerable extent of such lands might be thus utilized, and in a short time made to bear other crops equally or more valuable. |
