Avery delicate case.involving conflicting conflict-ing claims of the U. P.R.R..& K.P, for bonds and land, has been referred for decision to the Attorney General, who announced that his opinion will be ready this week. The conflict arose from a resolution introduced in the House by the late Thaddeus Stevens and passed by Congress, which it is claimed by one party, by inference, repeals a part of the charter of the other. . . , . - '. ' Greenbacks Issued. l "Washington, 2. The controller'of currency informed Secretary Boutwell yesterday that he has, during the week, issued S750.000 in' greenbacks. This will be employed in the redemption redemp-tion of three per cent, bonds, of which there are now out about 34,500,000 dollars. ; .' Numerous complaints have been received re-ceived at the Treasury department from merchants and manufacturers in Plattsburg, N. Y., collection district, , that there is so "much smuggling along the ;Canada border - as - to seriously injure them in business. Single cases, involving thousands of dollars each, are reported.- ... . ' - " Pleased trltli the Treaty. A special dispatch says that reports from many of the principal points on the border show satisfaction that the new Treaty does not contain any provisions pro-visions for reciprocity, which they say would have been no advantage : to Americans, as Canada, it is urged, neither produces anything we need and cannot produce ourselves, nor furnishes the market of America with goods. Under reciprocity Canada would sell her grain, potatoes and lumber in the United States instead of buying our manufactured articles, would import from England and then smuggle large quantitities of them over the border.
