Show A Wire-Beater Killed by the Wire-. Brother on a Steamboat, An inquest was held lant evening aboard the steamer Thomas Dean upon up-on the remains of James Wright, an Irishman, who died from the effects of a blow on the left side of the head, with the spoke of a wagon, in the hands of James Meagher. It appears that W right and Meagher were brothers-in-law. the former having hav-ing married the latter's sister. They had been living together at Pilot Knob, Mo., with their families. Las: Thursday passage was taken by them on the Dean, at St. Louis, for this city. Wright was intoxicated at the time he got on the boat, and taking frequent additional imbibations on the trip down, he naturally became very obnoxious to all with whom he came in contact. On Sunday evening as the boat was about leaving Cairo, Wright drew a dirk which he had on his person, per-son, knocked his wile down and was about to injure her severely, when the brother of the wife seized a wagon spoke which was lying near and struck him with it on the left side of the head, behind the ear. He lingered until Monday afternoon, when he died. The deceased leaves a wife and babe. The man Meagher, who coLumitted the deed, has made his escape. All who saw the difficulty state that he was not to blame, but that it was forced upon him by the attack made on his sUter. The widow and babe of the deceased, with Meagher's wife, were aboard of the boat last evening. They will all go down to Eunice. The officers of the steamboat did all in their power for the wounded man, and took charge of his remains until the inquest was held. A verdict was rendered in accordance with the above facts.
