One of the most destructive fires that ever occurred in New Jersey broke out on Saturday night, in Atlantic county, near New-lield, New-lield, which swept over a large district duriug the forty-eight hours subsequent. subse-quent. The West Jersey 11. 11. passes through a dense forest near Newfield, and the under growth was fired by locomotive sparks. The flames started opposite Newfield and, driven by a strong wind, swept rapidly towards Great Eggharbor river. Barns, dwellings dwell-ings and fences were burned, and nothing remained yesterday but black-end black-end trunks of trees. The area thus de.-olated is about twelve miles long and four miles wide. The river broke the progress of the flames a few miles north of Weymouth. The loss is from $150,000 to $200,000. Cablnc t Meeting. Washington, 18.
