Show Whiskt Spilling. Almauac-makers Almauac-makers for 170 might have 6aid, under various dates, "About this time look out for some extensive whLky spilling." The Alderman who issued the warrant, the City Marshal, Chief of Police and the posse that executed it, in the spilling of the article belonging belong-ing to Messrs. Englebrecht k Co., are all under indictment; and yesterday the civil case wa progressing nearly as fast as a mail bag traveling south from Cache Valley to this city. Just about this time, too, Mr. Meeker, the mild and amiable founder of the Colorado Color-ado colony inhabiting the town known as "Greeley. " and others, are being tried fur riot, in that they did spilt the whisky of an "enterprising German," as saith the telegraphic dispatch dis-patch published this morning ; for Mr. Meeker and the people of Greeley want to have a town pure in morals. And about this time, too, a large force of L. 3. troops and marines are protecting pro-tecting the revenue officers in spilling a rather 1 irge quantity of whisky in the City of Churches, sometimes called Brooklyn, on which the manufacturers manu-facturers declined to pay the usual government license known as revenue rev-enue tax. Altogether it looks as if the whisky men were being victimized into martyrs. Men have to pay taxes and license on manufacturing newspapers newspa-pers to enlighten the minds and increase the knowledge of the great public; but why should others have to pay-taxes pay-taxes or license for making the beverage bever-age known as bourbon, rot-gut or redeye, red-eye, when its influence is directly the opposite of enlightenment '.' The gentlemen gen-tlemen legal gentlemen and others-opposed others-opposed to spilling whisky under warrant war-rant of law, and who hold it to be an unlawful proceeding, when they get through with the Salt Lake liquor case should make a trip to Greeley, Colarada, and to Brooklyn: there's ovidently work for them in both places, if they are anxious to save the stimulating stimu-lating fluid. |
