Show TEXT BOOKS. "e had a visit yesterday front and considerable conversation with R. L. Campbell, Esq., Superintendent ot Common Schools, on the subject of text books for the schools. In answer to the question propounded by the Herald some time ago, as to who had recommended a proposed change in the Readers for the common schools, he informed us that though personally averse to the change the matter had been so urged upon him that he, as Territorial Superintendent of Common Schools, with the County Superintendents, Superinten-dents, had had the matter under advisement ad-visement f)r almost six months past, and they had agreed that the change was a desirable one. The law provides that these officers shall perform this duty, but the difficulty of traveling and the time" occupied in it between extreme ex-treme points of the Territory, renders a meeting of all the Superintendents a matter of great difficulty; and to save the expense consequent upon it, Superintendent Su-perintendent Campbell had visited the County Superintendents or had seen them on the subject, following a meeting meet-ing of Superintendents held in Weber county, at which the change was decided deci-ded on, and they acquiesced in the resolutions res-olutions adopted by the meeting. This is satisfactory, the provisions made for such a change having been complied with. The only regret we have is, that the public were not earlier made aware of what was being done, not only to have been Booner prepared for it, but to give the Superintendent and his coadjutors due credit lor their labors. Tt was the intention he informed up. to have had this done uie time ago, but certain terms with regard to prices were required to be inserted in the public notice to be made, by resolutions passed at the mating referred to, and these terms were not obtained in time to give thetn to the public when desired.
