Show Just Appreciation. A gentleman writing from Vincland, New Jersey, on the 22nd inst., to a gentlcmau in this city, says, with regard to the "Plea for Religious Liberty" made by our honored Delegate in the House of Representatives, when the anti-polygamy bill was before the House : I have read, re-read and read again the able Plea for Religious Liberty, delivered in the House of Representatives, Representa-tives, March 23rd, 1870, and consider it unanswerable. I have read it to many bigoted members of the M. E. and Presbyterian Churches, wlio De-fore De-fore reading it denounced polygamy in unmeasured terms; but after a candid examination of the speech, pronounced it the best speech they ever heard. They had never hoard of any distinction distinc-tion between bigamy and polygamy, which they now admit is so plain that a wayfaring man can understand it. The writer hearing of the discussion lately held here on the subject, was anxious for a report, to ec what would be said on both side-, and has been accommodated. He show hi? gcod sense and liberality of uiii.d by his appreciation of our IV,;v c "Plea," which will stand a- i." those historic .! agents to U -.n i id after y-ars when mtu ici.i 'i t . a-l'.:i;.n:d of their own narrow-'" n ni s- and that of their anco-icr-. |
