Show Bear River Oil Works. A correspondent, cor-respondent, a gentleman of ability and reliability, writes to tbe Herald thus concerning the Bear River Oil Company Com-pany : I visited the works of the Bear River Petroleum Co., at Bear River City, and was surprised to find a substantial boring machine erected. I visited several sev-eral places in the vicinity, and found oil oozing out of the rocks all around. Many barrels of crude petroleum are caught at the different wells. The parties now engaged in boring have every confidence that oil can be found whenever they can reach a certain depth, but they have a great difficulty in working through a kind of shale. Thev will have to rmt down tubing, which renders their operations tedious and expensive. Added to this, the parties engaged need the assistance of capital in prosecutiug their efforts. Those who profess to know say that there are more evidences in favor of striking oil around Bear River than there was in Pennsylvania. Should they succeed, you will have another magic city in Western Wyoming. Judge Carter, of Bridger, is strongly interested in the works, and has al ready spent a large sum of money in them, with confidence in the result. We learn that already a considerable quantity of oil is being taken out, and when the supply becomes sufficient for paying purposes, the whole West will offer a ready market. The Bear River oil wells is only another evidence of the vast riches deposited by nature in the forbidding looking regions of the Rocky Mountains and the Wasatch range. |
