Show BUTLER OP NEBRASKA. The Senate of the State of Nebraska, sitting as a high court of impeachment upon the trial of Gov. Butler on charge of peculation, has agreed to continue the case till May, to allow the accused time to bring forward some new testimony testi-mony which his counsel pretends to have found. It is said that had the vote been taken a week ago the Governor Gover-nor would have been convicted, but this continuance makes his conviction doubtful. As we understand this case, trie counsel for the defense do not deny that as a Commissioner, ex-omnio, Gov. Butler is guilty of the charge, but they claim that as the act was not that of the Governor, he cannot be held responsible re-sponsible for acts of the Governor. This may be good enough technical law in Xeoraska, but has a very dirty and rotten look to the candid world. If ex-officio Commissioner Butler steals $15,000, the question is in point What was Governor Butler doing at that time? And if Butler Commissioner Commis-sioner is fit for limbo, is not the same Butler as Governor a fit subject for impeachment? At least, for the honor of the gubernatorial office, it is to be hoped Butler may lose no time in resigning re-signing if the Senate should acquit him on such a diity technicality as this.
