Show Incendiary Attempt. At about l.,;o'olock last night an attempt was made to burn the old Central mill, at thenorth end of Virginia. The engineer at the Ophir works, near by, perceived the fire when it was first kindled, and sounded ' the alarm with his steam whistle, which being responded to by the fire-bells of the city, the Fire Department De-partment were promptly out with their machines ready for action. The fire, however, was extinguished without their assistance. From the place where the fire was set, and the fact that the mill has been lying idle for a long time past, this was clearly an incendiary attempt. at-tempt. We are also informed that the scoundrel himself was seen in the act and running away as the alarm was given. Pily he was not caught at it and immediately shot or hung, without with-out waiting for even the Vknlant"s to get hold of him. Gold "Bill Nam, April Uth. |
