Show LETTER FROill ER1GHAII CITY. Brigham Cirr; Jan. o, 1S71. Editors Herald: The holidays having hav-ing passed, I wish to give you a brief synopsis of the programme enacted here. "Christinas Eve" was celebrated by a large concourse of citizens of this and other places, assembling at the new woollen factory for the purpose of ded icating the building and joining in a social party. The dedication was conducted con-ducted Dy President Lorenzo Snow in a very impressive manner. Among those noticeable on the stand, were Counsellors Samuel Smith and J. C. Wright, Bishop Nichols, Mayor C. Loveland, and others. This was certainly cer-tainly the most imposing affair of the kind ever witnessed in this county. During the ensuiug week, a number of other parties were given, among which was one by Mr. S. Smith, for the purpo e of dedicating his new "cabinet "cab-inet and furniture shop," which was a most enjoyarle one. President L. Snow officiated in the dedication. All present expressed themselves highly pleased, and the best of feelings prevailed pre-vailed throughout the evening. There wis a tine entertainment given at the iliuh School, on New Year's eve, consisting of recitations, declamations declama-tions and scenes from Shakespeare, which were of the most interesting character; the students doing houor t themselves and reflecting great credit upon the ability of their teacher, J'rof. L. F. Monch. As distinctions would be invidious I will refrain from making any. This institution also supports a "Ladies' Magazine," conducted by Misses Clara Snow, Mary Pierce and Lucy Nichols, which is ably edited, displaying talent and enterprise. It contained among other matter, extracts from the Salt Lake Herald. The institution proposes issuing a weekly-paper, weekly-paper, to be edited alternately by young ladies and young gentlemen. Prof.' Monch seems to be fully awake to the interests of his students. Yesterday, while the brass band was discoursing its melodious strains through the streets, attended by a large crowd of the youth of this pla;e, a son of Hon. J. C. Wright, about ten years of age, had the misfortune to break one of the bones of the leg, about two inches above the ankle. Considerable swelling took plae before Dr. Ormsby Jr., who was called, arrived. ar-rived. He found it necessary to administer ad-minister chloroform before operating. To-day the little lellow is doing well. Otis. |
