Richmond, 14 John Johns, junr., Cfiunscl for Pat Woods, moved in the city court yesterday that a nolle prosequi prose-qui be entered on the indictment against Woods, in view of the tact that congress had punished Woods for the asault on representative Porter. The comuionweahh attorney, with the consent con-sent of the court, declined to enter a j!"? prosequi, saying that Wood s offense was against the state of Virginia, Vir-ginia, and he must be tried in her court. Johns produced the order of Speaker Blaine committing Woods, but the court held that a nolle prosequi could not be entered unless it was proven that Woods had been punished for the offense by some competent au thority, which congre.-s was not.
