Show A Lively Chase. Henry Walker is a colored individual with a penchant for jewelry belonging to other people. Recently he appropriated all the jewelry jew-elry he could find or it is so charged belonging to one gentleman, watch, ring, guard-chain, &c, and all the loose coin he could find in the pockets of another. The police got wind of his efforts and "went for" him. Henry had made off south of the city, when he was followed and a lively chase ensued. Mile in and mile out he ran fleetly and was as hotly pursued. Like a deer escaping from its hunters he took to the water, the surging waves of - Mill Creek, laden with ice and slush, receiving his ebony person, and in the water and bed of the creek he. sped on for nearly a mile, the creek rising above where the epikes of his swallow-tail would part. But the fates were unpropitious; he was captured; and he now reclines in the quietness of the city -boarding - house, whither he was escorted by a guard of honor . detailed from .the police. force for the purpose. ! -- 1 -'' " |
