Show APPOINT GOOD MENThe I The city council tonight are it is expected ex-pected will appoint two members of the fire and police board of commissioners commis-sioners to take the place of two members mem-bers whose terms of office expired the latter part of December It is to be hoped that the council will appoint good men Bold men who will stand for lanw and order Strong men that cannot be swerved from the right and who will not be the tools of men in power or of the saloon element that so often seeks to dominate affairs municipal muni-cipal By making this board of police and fire commissioners bipartisan it was hoped that it would be nonpartisan nonparti-san in the management of the affairs placed under its jurisdiction To be so the commission must be made up of strong men and especially must they be of such character that they cannot be suspected of catering to the supposed sup-posed Interests of what is known as the saloon element Such is the moral sentiment sen-timent in this city that it will sustain sus-tain every effort to secure good municipal muni-cipal government and no city official I need fear the influence of the saloon or rough element Salt Lake is a good city that is the good people overwhelmingly over-whelmingly outnumber the bad the moral sentiment while not blasted with Puritanical bigotry or narrow mindedness minded-ness demands clean government that prostitution gambling and other evils that plague older and larger cities shall I here be crushed and given no recognition recog-nition as possessing influence to shape the municipal policy or controlling in I any manner municipal appointments Let the world know that the law and order people who insist on good government I gov-ernment for Salt Lake and who will sustain and strengthen the hands of those who make a stand for It are not only overwhelmingly in the majority but they are active and earnest in their efforts to secure the best possible government gov-ernment for the city So let the coun I cil appoint good men safe men strongmen strong-men on the board of police and fire II commissions |
