Show WILL ISSUE A GALL Republicans Likelyto Hold a Meeting Meet-ing This Week PRIMARIES TO BE HELD SILVER REPUBLICANS A SVR RULCA GOING TO WAIT AWHILE Sentiment Against Cannon Among McKinley Men I Very Bitter Anything t Beat Cannon Now the Slogan Odd Bits of Politics of the County and S t Pursuan to the instructions given by puruan the state committee it Is expected the county committee of the Republicans will have a meeting some time this week for the purpose of formulating a call for a county convention which will be held some time during the month of August probably during the last week of the same The manner of procedure will be about the same a heretofore no Innovations Inno-vations having been prescribed by the Introduction of new ideas As stated In The Herald some days ago there will doubtless be no call for primaries of the silver Republican combine until after the return of the chairman from his summer vacation fishing < a o < > There Is one position to be filled In the county this fall which has not yet been mentioned In connection with any of the political palaver which has been noted and that is the place now filled by Mrs Margaret A Caine Whether or not the Republicans will make an effort to select a woman for the place seems as yet undecided but In the event there is an effort It Is hinted that Mrs Anna Maddison Bradley Brad-ley will be in the race She was a contestant con-testant for the office of city auditor last fall on the Doremus ticket and is very well known In the party of which she Is a member Doubtless Mrs Caine will be a aspirant for re nomination and there will be others Will Lett is mentioned this time He was a candidate last convention but the fates were against a man receiving the nomination then < 0 < Recorder Jensen will doubtless be In the field for selection a a candidate to succeed himself and there will be others but up to this time no one has ventured to declare himself w < S > < Some weeks ago on what was considered con-sidered the best of authority the statement state-ment was made that Fred Leonard would be a candidate for county clerk Mr Leonard Eays this is an error and the result of an attempt on the part of some waggish friend to play a joke on him 00 < > < There is a strong sentiment among the McKinley Republicans of the state in favor of the defeat of Frank J Cannon Can-non I Is heard on all sides among those who identify themselves with the administration and everywhere one goes he hears the slogan anything to beat Cannon ExSenator Brown laid down the lines when he made his declaration a short time ago and since then his example has been followed by I nearly all the members of the faction They will never forgive Cannon for I bolting theSt Louis convention While C E Allen and Thomas Kearns are not In the field for anything this fall it may be incidentally stated that these two gentlemen will have to do a world of penance jn order to get even v 6 < i Inasmuch a this county has 12 members of the next legislature to select one would naturally presume uld naturly prsume that some interest would begin to man ifest itself but of all the places which are to be filled these seem to be given the least attention For the state senate sen-ate but two men have as yet been sug gested on the Democratic side of the house John E Hansen and Charlie Williamson The latter will have the support of the laboring element which I will ask that he be nominated For the lower house there does not seem to be a great rush although later on when political matters begin to shape themselves a number may be sug gested E G Rognon has a following among the members of the Republican party and he is quite a favorite with the Republican members of the Utah Press association Whether Rognon wants to run or not in the shape mat ters are is extremely doubtful a he is a man who likes to achieve success sucess and not lead forlorn hopes < i > < < s > Material for county attorney seems to be rare among the members of the opposition judging from the remarks which are made upon that subject by those who should be in a position to speak Up to this time no rising at torney has been suggested for the place S > 00 As a matter of fact everyone of the opposition manifest a shyness uncommon uncom-mon In ordinary politics but not to be wondered at this time The tme organization orgniza tion is divided against itself has two factions or wings neither of which has any use for the other To stand any chance of winning man should have the endorsement of both and many fear they cannot get that For Instance a I mans loyalty to silver and his action in the last presidential election might be the means of his defeat in a convention con-vention of McKinleyites while his ad herence tothe platform on which the president was elected would almost be sure death in a meeting where the white metal was being considered I will ba a puzzle for solution the arranging ar-ranging of a ticket or tickets this fall and there will be harmony of the Holbrook Hol-brook kind from convention until elect elec-t n day G > w I Peter Condie will not be a candidate for sheriff this fall if what is said I concerning his actions political are true It Is given out that Peter does I not want any more politics until the clouds roll by The drubbing he received I I re-ceived last time when he failed to sing his way Into the office was such that he will wait until after awhile when his party is numerically stronger 0 < > < 3 > Albert Reiser has maintained a sphinx like silence during the hot j months but now that cool waves are I beginning to b6 due he may be expected j ex-pected to be observed repairing fences I for the fall campaign That young I man Is never satisfied and when all the balance are found resting In the shade of the trees he will be out in I the open making 3 rustle for something some-thing Albert might be induced 1 to take the nomination for county recorder I re-corder If he could get i but there is lots of time for him to look over the I ground and nominations are going to be plentiful this season I |
