Show At the Tabernacle Apostles George Teasdale and Brigham Young addressed the large audience at the tabernacle yesterday afternoon Apostle Teasdale said that of the varied blessings received by Latterday Saints there was one precious above all others It cannot be attained without good works Christ when he was here laid down certain conditions by an au herence to which salvation would come to man The Redeemer had aright a-right to lay down those eternal con unins for by his blrod the power of redemption was purchased This gift of blessing is the holy spirit the divine agent which makes us wise in all things This spirit is necessary to free us from darkness superstition and priestcraft It does not come until I after the baptism of water which cleanses the believer of sin Then by the power and authority of Christ this spirit of intelligence is conferred upon us according to the promise made by the Savior and his apostles Not until he received this spirit was Peter able to say positively that Jesus was both Lord and Christ When he told the Savior he knew this he was told God had revealed it to him by the Lord There was no way for him to gain a knowledge of this except by the revelation revela-tion upon which the superstructure of his church is built and which defies the war of the adversary or the gates of hell This proclamation of truth by the Latterday Saints is not believed of the world They reject the doctrine because they are not spiritually wise The glory of God is intelligence but not the kind of intelligence that comes i merely of scholastic training A man may be worldly wise and yet a fool j for sayinsr there is no God Intelll j I I gence is priesthood and not anything j I of the earth earthly In the last day I i many shall rise out of the dust some to glory and some to shame and everlasting i ever-lasting contempt Those who arise to darkness are men who by denying God and his Christ are fools Apostle Brigham Young said such i 1 words as had just been spoken fill the breast with hope of a future and happier hap-pier life God had made plain to his children his desires concerning them All they needed to attain his glory was to abide by his commandments The Latterday Saints could not deny what God has revealed to them however I how-ever much they might be persecuted i It had been the good fortune of the people to receive the Lords spirit which brightens the soul and illumin 1 atcs the mind Without this spirit of inspiration there was a spirit of man that led him on seemingly in the light but eventually to destruction There was a spark of divinity born in every heart and this should be nourished that it may not be allowed to flicker and vanish This spirit of truth is necessary in even avocation of life whether mechanism art or engineering engineer-ing It was this spirit that enabled the Saints to attain measurable perfection per-fection in building cities and Irrigating Irrigat-ing the soil The people should make Utah the ideal state the Mecca of the godly of all the earth |
