Show ROBERT PABHELL Telegrams Prom Portland and San Ifrancisco Concerning Him Justice Ben Ternes has received answers an-swers to two telegrams sent by him in his capacity as coroner for the purpose pur-pose of ascertaining more about the dead man Robert Farrell Chief of Police P J Barry of Portland Port-land replied that he never had had any money dealings with Farrell Hence the agreement purporting to be signed by Barry binding the latter to pay 100 on the indorsement a Western West-ern Union check for 3300 is either ca forgery or Barry is mistaken The ether telegram was from the Mutual Savings bank of San Francisco and says Farrell withdrew his money on the last of July A niessagent to H B Dyer cut Portland was returned with the information infor-mation that the party was out of town This is not surprising aa in the light of yesterdays press dispatch published pub-lished in The Herald Dyer appears as the other man in the case Meanwhile FarreUs body has remained re-mained at headauarters awaiting Instructions in-structions from someone as to its final disposition In looking over the telegraphic correspondence cor-respondence of the man alL alike are impressed with his energy and his resources re-sources for finding out things He was well educated and apparently cool and methodical He foresaw and forestalled everything except that possibly the woman might be deceiving him and he even seems to have suasecied this But his suspicions were brushed aside by a few ingeniously worded phrases sent over the telegraph wires It seems to be Kiplings tale of The Vampire over again with a few modifications modi-fications He staked his all on the woman who dd not care and when he came to know that she was such a woman lifeperhaps lost its charm He ivas umvllling to play the part of Kip lings Vampire victim of whom it was written that some of him lived but the most of him died and so he died all at once At least that is one version ver-sion of the story There may bo another an-other version a womans version bat Mary Lansing is the one to write that |
