| Show BLOCKED THE INVESTIGATION I Union Stock Yards Company Refuses to Produce Its Books I Chicago June 3J C Denison secretary sec-retary and treasurer of the Union Stock Yards and Transit company blocked the Investigation of the Interstate I Inter-state commerce commission today by refusing to produce before the committee com-mittee the books and records of his corporation Mr Newlln of the Texas Cattle Growers association asked the commission com-mission to issue a subpoena to compel com-pel the secretary to produce 5 them Attorney Babcock claimed that the Union Stock Yards and Transit company com-pany was an Illinois corporation doing business entirely In Cook county and that the commission had nothing to do with its affairs Chairman Morrison said that he considered the Union Stock Yards and Transit company although al-though an Illinois corporation was handling interstate business and hence was subject to an inquiry by the commission com-mission However he said his associates I asso-ciates did not agree with him hence no subpoena would be issued I The object of the efforts to bring in books and records was to show that the railroads formerly held the stock and organized the Stock Yards company com-pany and Mr Newlin was desirous of showing the relations of these roads and this company at the present time Secretary Denison stated that the Stock Yards company had no contracts con-tracts with any of the railroads ando and-o far as he knew never had any He I SPIQ ne wouia piaaiy lurnisn tne names of the organizers and directorates down to the present and information in regard to capital stock etc The railroads in their defense of the Terminal charges filed a transcript of the evidence submitted by the defense in the suit brought in the United States circuit court by commission men against the receivers pt the Atchison Topeka Santa Fe railroad |
