Show Logn Iiues I I LOGAN Jan nThe little town of j lte Paradise was thrown Into a furore of excitement yesterday morning by a rumor ru-mor which gained currency to the effect that a young and respected lady of that town had committeed suicide Invest gation proved the report to be well founded and that the girl who desired to die was Miss Lizzie Koberts 17 years of age and that the method chosen had been the strychnine route The facts in the case the causes leading lead-ing up to the committal of the rash act I are briefly as follows To begin with Miss Robert sweetheart had had a quarrel and fight with her brother This naturally gave rise to feelings in her family Her father J D Roberts ap uroved the course of his son in the altercation al-tercation and the girl espoused the cause of her aosent lover Yesterday morning the subject came up between father and daughter Hot words passed between them and finally the father became be-came so exasperated that he slapped his daughter in the face for her obstinate ob-stinate championship of her sweetheart Thereupon the girl grew livid with anger an-ger and clenching her hands shrieked I at her father that that was the first time in her life that he had struck her and that it should be the last I The interview then terminated the girl retiring to another room In hal an hour she was discovered writhing in I mortal agony and the discovery was soon made that she had made away With the strychnine bottle and that some of the deadly poison was gone A telephone tele-phone message was sent at once to Lo Jan and Dr Parkinson sent word back to give her mustard and water until he could arrive on the scene The girl firmly firm-ly resisted all attempts to administer the emetic and I is said that i took four men to force it down her throat When the doctor arrive she had thrown most of the poison up and with additional addi-tional treatment was soon out of danKer dan-Ker it is said that the girl is still determined deter-mined to die and many of her neighbors would not be surprised to see the at temnt to take her own life repeated as soon as she is strong enough I |
